Plaintiff Receives $300,000 In Damages After Falling In Front Of Grocery Store
As the plaintiff was walking on the sidewalk in of a grocery store in Brooklyn, the plaintiff tripped and fell on an uneven grate covering cellar steps. The plaintiff suffered serious injury to his ankle. Plaintiff argued that the defendant grocery store was liable for failing to maintain a safe condition of their premises, failing to warn of the hazards, and failing to repair the premises. The defendant failed to respond to the complaint and summons and the court ruled that the plaintiff was entitled to $300,000 in damages.
Dog Bite Case Settles For $250,000
Plaintiff alleged that the defendant’s dog, which had previously killed another dog, bit him on the forearm, causing severe injury that required surgical repair. The case settled before trial for $250,000 for the plaintiff.
Nursing Home Negligence Case Settles For $175,000
Plaintiff was an 88-year old patient in a nursing home. Plaintiff contended that nursing staff negligently dropped her during a transfer in the nursing home, causing a fracture to her distal femur. She claimed the injuries caused severe pain and would require surgery. The case settled without going to trial for $175,000.
Pedestrian Receives $90,000 Jury Award After Being Struck By Car
While driving his motor vehicle, the defendant struck the plaintiff, a pedestrian, as she was lawfully crossing the street in New York. Plaintiff alleged that the defendant’s negligent driving caused her injuries to her knee that required surgery. The jury found that the plaintiff suffered a permanent injury as a result of the collision, and awarded her $90,000.
