Severely Injured Professional Boxer Sued State of New York, $22 Million Settlement

Professional heavy-weight boxer Magomed Abdusalamov sued State of New York over State Athletic Commission negligence. The suit alleged that the boxing commission failed to engage an ambulance for treatment after the boxer sustained severe injury.

Due to the negligence, the failure to treat these injuries resulted in worse brain injury and is unable to walk or speak in complete sentences.

Abdusalamov, a Central Asian boxer, was injured during a fight with Mike P. at Madison Square Garden in New York City. During the first round of the fight, Abdusalamov was struck in the head and told his corner man he suspected a head fracture. After the fight, the state employees did not engage the use of an ambulance to treat the plaintiff.

Instead, the plaintiff had to take a taxi to the hospital, where he had to undergo emergency surgery. He was found to have sustained traumatic brain injury, subdural hematoma.

This personal injury and negligence case settled for $22,000,000 for the plaintiff.
