Working out at the gym with a personal trainer should be a positive experience, but if your personal trainer’s negligence results in an injury, it could change your life.
What happens if a personal trainer’s negligence caused you injuries? Who’s liable?
Personal trainers at gyms are there to guide, advise, and support clients through exercises and the use of sometimes potentially dangerous equipment. If your personal trainer is not adequately qualified, they could be putting their clients at serious risk for injury.
There’s a lot more to a personal training session than what clients see on the surface. A good, responsible personal trainer will do all of the following:
- Have the training, qualifications and experience
- Have the knowledge to know what exercises are appropriate for what people
- Know when to avoid pushing a person past their capacity
- Able to adequately perform all of the exercises and show correct machine useage
- Create a workout around not only their client’s wishes, but also one that takes their health into consideration
- Inform their client’s of all the risks involved in their training
When a personal trainer does not perform one or more of the above points, they or the gym they work for may be liable for client injuries that occur.
Why do clients get injured during personal training sessions? Do to the personal trainer’s negligence, a client may:
- End up doing exercises that are wrong for them
- May be pushed well beyond their capability
- May have unacknowledged health problems that put them at risk doing particular exercises
- May be using the machine wrong while under the personal trainer’s supervision
Personal trainers and gyms may be held accountable for injuries that occur to their clients. A gym may have been negligent in their hiring process or in their training process. They may have had very poor supervision over their personal trainers. They might have designed their training programs poorly and put many client’s a risk.
There are so many types of injuries a person could end up with if they are not properly educated and supervised by their personal trainer. Victims of gym injuries could sue the personal trainer and gym in order to be compensated for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
