E-cigarettes are exploding in the mouths and pockets of people across the nation causing burns, injuries and even death.
E-cigarettes and vape pens became popular in the last few years as a ‘healthier’ alternative to cigarettes, but news of exploding batteries inside the e-cigarettes has people on edge.
Attorneys for the victims are now going after and filing lawsuits against battery manufacturers as well as vape stores. These victims suffered death, loss or broken teeth, burns, nerve damage, paralysis and more from the exploding batteries and shrapnel they let loose. These injuries are life altering and the road to recovery for many is a long journey.
Two of the major brands supplying the batteries for the e-cigs are Samsung and LG, and according to some reports, these batteries are not meant for devices such as e-cigarettes, but for power tools and the like. Experts likened the batteries to carrying loaded bullets ready to explode anytime in your pant’s pocket.
There are no FDA standards for the batteries used in vape pens. Some types of the batteries used have older devices called mechanical mods, which, unlike modern devices which have safety mechanisms to reduce the risk of issues from arising, the older mechanical mods have no such mechanisms.
Although e-cigarette injuries are suspected to be drastically under-reported, it is estimated that between 2015 and 2017, there were over 2,000 reported emergency room visits as a result of e-cigarette explosions and burn accident injuries.
